Whether you want to admit it or not, most people make some kind of resolution or set new goals at the beginning of a new year. It's natural to want to make changes and have a new start, but so many people fail so quickly, resolutions sometimes get a bad reputation.

We have a resolution for you that we don't think will be too hard for you to keep - GET MORE SLEEP! It's a fantastic one to make since it also affects so many other areas where you might be setting new goals for your diet, health, fitness, staying less stressed and more.

We know it's easier said than done though with work, kids to take care of, meals to prepare and all the other things you have to deal with in a day.

Try these three ideas to help you relax and get to sleep at night so you wake up feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.

  1. Eat right - Eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water at least two or three hours before you plan on getting in bed. This will help prevent heartburn, indigestion, feeling too full or having too much energy to sleep. Avoid products containing caffeine, nicotine and alcohol since they also act as stimulants.
  2. Exercise earlier in the day - Getting those endorphins flowing too close to bedtime can actually make it harder to sleep, but if you get at least 20-30 minutes of exercise daily, it will help your body prepare for deep, efficient and restful sleep at night.
  3. Create a sanctuary for sleep - Start with a quality, supportive, comfortable mattress, sheets and pillows. Keep the bedroom cool, quiet, free of televisions, computers, phones and anything work-related.
